Inspiration to make your very own wedding countdown sign
The countdown is on! We eagerly anticipate the excitement of Christmas with an advent calendar, so why wouldn’t you want to keep track and countdown to a slightly more important date in the diary?!
And while we’re not providing you with a small chocolate everyday in the run up to your wedding, we’ve created an easy DIY to allow you, and whoever can see it, to keep track of the number of days you have left before you say I Do. And while it’s intended to build excitement and anticipation, it can also be used as a reminder of how much time you have left to finalise all your wedding plans (and maybe finish off those wedding DIYs!)
You will need:
- A rectangle of wood (e.g. 6mm MDF). Ours measures approx. 20cm x 10cm
- A wooden heart
- Paint (& Paintbrush)
- Chalkboard Paint (& Paintbrush)
- Drill & drill bit to drill holes
- Greaseproof paper & pencil
- Marker pen (Could use paint or a vinyl)
- Ribbon
- Chalk
A lot of what we’ve done for our DIY is optional or can be customised, so you can make the plaque perfect for you. We’d love to see your finished countdown plaques if you do give this DIY a go. Tag us in your photos over on Instagram.

You’ve laid this out in such a clear and logical way, love it!
Thank you
This is such a cute and practical idea! Not only does it make the countdown exciting, but it’s also a lovely keepsake to look back on after the wedding. I might even gift one to my engaged friend—it’s such a thoughtful project. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Alisa, Aww, thank you! We’re so glad you enjoyed the tutorial, we hope your friend loves the gift!
